Death Adder
(Acanthophis sp.)

Although a short snake, rarely exceeding 0.6m, it is extremely stout.

It hides amongst ground litter and attracts its prey of lizards, mice and birds by wriggling its skinny tail like a worm.

Relying upon camouflage to avoid detection, it is often not seen and consequently trodden on.

It gives birth to about 15 live young. The young measure 15cm at birth.
