CANN’S TURTLE
Chelodina canni

Occupies ephemeral waters of the floodplains or rivers in the wet-dry tropics. Habits poorly known, but in the Northern Territory nests in May at the end of the wet season.

Aestivates beneath little, in logs or crevices in the dry season. Aestivation may last several years.

Smells foul when distressed, called Nganymalin (smelly armpit) in the Mangarrayi language.
