EASTERN SNAKE-NECKED TURTLE Chelodina longicollis

Abundant and widespread in southern and eastern Australia, prefers ephemeral swamps and billabongs.

A carnivorous and opportunistic feeder. Lays multiple clutches in spring and early summer. Releases a pungent odour when distressed. (Jervis Bay, NSW)
