MARY RIVER TURTLE
Elusor macrurus

Also known as Pet Shop Turtle. Restricted to the Mary River in Queensland.

Known to science for many years only from pet shop specimens, until finally located in its natural habitat due to the determination of researchers.

Females gather to nest en masse at sand banks. Males have a very large, thick tail.
