PIG-NOSED TURTLE
Carettochelys insculpta

Sole surviving member of its family. Widespread in southern New Guinea and also found in a few large rivers of the Northern Territory.

Neck is drawn straight back into the shell and not sideways like all other Australian freshwater turtles.

Highly regarded as food by native people throughout its range.
